First Sims 3 expansion pack announced

I don’t know about the rest of you out there in Sims 3 land but I still haven’t explored all the new things there is to offer in The Sims 3. I am still finding out new things every time that I fire up the Sims 3 for a game playing session. The fine people at EA games are always a step ahead of us though and that is no different when it comes to The Sims 3.

This week, the first Sims 3 expansion pack was announced and it will be called – Sims 3 World Adventures. It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun. Sims 3 characters will be able to travel the world, a bit like the vacation themed expansion pack for Sims 2. It sounds like Sims 3 World Adventures will be a much bigger expansion pack though. Your Sims 3 characters will be able to travel the world and visit places such as China, France and Egypt.

While they are on their travels, your Sims 3 characters will develop new skills such of photography. They will also meet people from different cultures and take things, such as fashion sense, back with them. They can even decide to move permanently to somewhere they visited on their travels. This is probably a clever business move for the folks behind The Sims 3. Imagine the interest in places like China to have the Sims 3 characters living in a Chinese environment, for example.

The Sims 3 World Adventures release date is said to be Novemeber 16, 2009 and apparently a $10 Sims Store credit when you buy it. I still have a couple dollars left from the $10 I got when I purchased the Sims 3 but I am sure by November I will be wanting that credit badly.

A few screen shots from The Sims 3 World Adventures expansion pack have been released. It isn’t much but it is enough to wet our appetite for the first Sims 3 expansion pack.

They give us an idea of of what it will be like to travel to Egypt with our Sims 3 characters.

I wonder if the Sims 3 character in the last picture from Sims 3 World Adventures is haggling over a price for that souvenir. That could be a fun trait to have to learn!

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to find out more about this Sims 3 expansion pack.

My The Sims 3 Launch Day Journey

And I do actually mean it was a journey. I live on the outskirts of London, UK (though, I was born and raised in the States..long story) and I don’t yet own a car. So, that means that in order to go pick up my reserved copy of The Sims 3, I had to grab a bus and go to my local shopping area. The bus took ages to arrive but at least I was on my way and knew that it wouldn’t be too long until I finally had my copy of The Sims 3.

Being a total Sims dork, I brought my camera and figures I might share the journey of my The Sims 3 copy from store to drive, so to speak. Yes, somewhat lame, I know, but then I have been waiting a very long time for this day.

Anyway, so when I got off the bus I went straight towards my local branch of Game. They sure were going big on it being The Sims 3 release day. This picture is of their display window. At least I knew they wouldn’t have forgotten to order their copies of the game!

Game also made sure you knew as soon as you walked into the shop that today was Sims 3 day. You have to love that they even have the Sims 3 advertising on the security scanner at the door. So that people trying to steal their copy of The Sims can get a good look?

So, I went in and handed over my Game membership card and asked for my reserved copy of The Sims 3. The guy said ‘oh, there is a problem with these copies’. Well, as you can imagine, I was having a mild freak out inside but I calmly asked him what he meant. Eventually, he bumbled through an explanation that some people that have bought The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition were having problem with the access codes for getting their free sports car. Then he gave me a url where info would be displayed about how to get the car. He said he thought it was just a high demand thing. I don’t know what the real case is but I can wait on the cars. Anybody in the UK been able to download the cars? Where did you get them?

Anyway, I then had to to wait for my bus home too. Why is it that when you really want to get somewhere the buses take forever to arrive? Once I got home I laid the two boxes that I came with The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition out on my computer desk. These are my very own copies of The Sims 3:

When I was in town, I picked up a sandwich from Subway because there was no way that I was going to stop my install to actually make food. This picture pretty much sums up my plans for the afternoon.

Then, I very nearly had a Sims 3 heart attack. I opened the first box that came with my copy of The Sims 3 Collectors Edition. When I opened it this is what was what I found inside>

That is right! It was empty! Oh my lord, I could feel my heart jump out of my chest! Then, I had a flash that I had read on another Sims 3 forum last night that somebody else freaked out when they opened an box without a disc and then they latter found it in the second box. So, I calmed down a bit and opened the big fancy box that comes as part of The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition. Sure enough, the disc was in there and my blood pressure returned to somewhat normal.

A whole bunch of stuff came with the Sims 3 Collector’s Edition. I took a sort of ‘group shot’ of all the stuff that came out of the box.

The item which most people will be talking about is the Sims 3 USB drive. Here are two pictures of the one that came with my game. It does look pretty neat as far as USB drives go. It does came with a keychain attachment. So, I guess even if you aren’t going to use the USB key all that much you could still use it as a nifty Sims 3 keychain.

With everything out of the box and examined, there was only one thing left to do. Put the disc into my cd-drive and get ready to install!

All I have to wait is just one more week. At this time in exactly one week I will be at my computer playing The Sims 3 at last! June 5, 2009 is the official UK release date of The Sims 3. As soon as I wake up I am going off to the game shop where I have pre-ordered my copy of The Sims 3. Then, I will make my way back to the house as fast as I possibly can and start installing! I can’t wait to finally get to publish something on this Sims 3 blog that is about the actual game play!

Well, at least for those of you in North America. Those of us in the UK have to wait for the Sims 3 UK release date which isn’t until the 5th of June. Still, any day closer to being able to play The Sims 3 is a good thing! Do all of you have your copy of the game pre-ordered? You only have a week to do it! I suggest, taking this next week to get all outstanding chores out of the way. That way, once you do get your copy of The Sims 3, you will be able to get lost in the game play for a few days without the world collapsing around you.

Only one more week!

I can’t wait to make my own Sims 3 character!

Have you thought about the first Sims 3 character you are going to make? I can’t decide if I am going to try to make a Sims 3 version of myself right away or if I am going to dive right into playing the game. I don’t really like playing with a Sims character named after me let alone one that also looks like me. It would be fun if the Sims version of me didn’t have to grow up and die but they do. So, it is best to just make a totally made up Sims character. Though, I think I do want to make a Sims 3 version of me to use as my avatar on Twitter (if you aren’t following me on twitter do it now!..lol).

Which ever way I decide to go with my first Sims 3 character, it looks like I am going to be spoiled for choice during the design stage. Check out this Sims 3 player spotlight video. It features Sims player Shtinky and apart form her fantastic Aussie accent, the what I really got from her video was the urge to get in and tinker with the Sims 3 creation tools. I love the 40′s style glam look she gave to her Sims 3 character.

Have you seen the new Star Trek movie yet? I saw it a few weeks back. I am not a big Star Trek fan (though I am not against it either) and I honestly enjoyed it. If you are a fan of Star Trek and The Sims and you haven’t seen this parody yet then you need to see it now! This Sims 3 Star Trek parody is a real giggle for fans of both. Ever wondered what Spock would look like as a Sim? Well, wonder no longer because at last Star Trek has gone to the final Sims frontier.

EA Games is really ramping up the Sims 3 promotional machine. Which means that we are getting lots of new Sims 3 commercials and trailers coming out. Of course, when you are this desperate for The Sims 3 release date to arrive you will watch it all and that is exactly what I have been doing. After all, I haven’t played The Sims 2 since the original Sims 3 release date came and went all those weeks back.

Have you seen this funny Sims 3 commercial? It is a lot of fun to watch all of the Sims 3 characters rioting over Sunset Valley. There are so many Sims 3 characters in the commercial that it was hard for me to focus on just a few the first time I watched it. When I watched it a second time, though, I got a real kick of watching the Sims 3 grannies feel up the Sims 3 man in his business suit. Too funny!

Anybody else really itching to get their hands on The Sims 3? If you are like me then you are reaching for anything possible to get your Sims 3 fix while you wait for the release date. Today,the carrot that the Sims 3 guys are dangling in front of us is a sneak peak at the Sims 3 intro. Take a good look at the Sims 3 intro because, if you are anything like me, you will watch it once or twice and then hit the mouse button the second is starts to load every time from then on. Right now though, I love getting to see the Sims 3 characters in movement rather than just still images. I can feel us getting closer to that Sims 3 release date! I can’t wait to be playing with the characters of Sunset Valley. For now we can just watch and dream

Doesn’t the Sims 3 interior design tool look fun?

Decorgal is one of those Sims players that loves the interior design aspect of the game. I like that too but it has never really been my main focus when playing The Sims. I think that is because after I had seen all the different bits of furniture once then the thrill of it didn’t hold my attention as much as the character creation did. Well, it looks like that could all change for me when The Sims 3 release date finally arrives.

In this Sims 3 player spotlight video, Decorgal gives us a look at how the design tool will work. At last we will be able to change the look of just about any item in the game. No longer do you have to pass up that cool sofa that would be *so* perfect for you Sims character only because it comes in some awful floral pattern. There will be so many possibilities for really matching the home the Sims live in to their personalities.

There should be a contest to see who can make the most outlandish looking house. What colour would you make your curtains?
