So, sure thing, I went out first thing this morning and bought my copy of the World Adventures expansion pack. I made really sure to back up my saved games files because the last thing I wanted to do was to lose my legacy family after having been playing them so long. As it happens, my family was just fine when I installed but I would still rather be careful.

My latest generation of the Puggington legacy was just about to have her birthday where she became an adult. So, I decided to hold off on any travelling until that was completed and then make her the first world traveller of the family. The character is Jasmine Puggington and you can download her at the Sims 3 exhange – just click here .

One of the things that I hadn’t expected but am really enjoying about the Sims 3 World Adventures expansion pack, is that not only can you go to other places but that tourists from those places also come to your town. When Jasmine Pugginton was waiting for her birthday, she was in the central park area and met a tourist from France. So, I figured the first world adventure I sent my Sims 3 characters on would be to France.

The day of her birthday, Jasmine Puggington packed her bag and was off for a three day stay in France. How long you can stay in your travel destination depends on what sort of travel visa your Sims 3 character has obtained. The more experience they have of travel and the more tasks they complete the longer and longer they can stay. I think three Sims days for your first visit is just fine and it also means you won’t get burned out on all the new things straight away.

As you arrive in Sims 3 France, this is the view you get. I don’t know about you but I think it is rather pretty! I especially like the stone work on that bridge.

When you arrive at the base camp area of the French town, there is a notice board. If you examine the notice board you are given information on any adventures that are on offer. These are challenges set my locals a bit like those you get associated with your job and such back in your normal Sims 3 town. I had Jasmine Puggington take a look at the board. I love the expression on her face as the contemplates the adventures on offer.

Once she had decided on her adventure she hopped onto a scooter and went to find her contact. I love that Sims 3 scooter! Even more so, I love the look of ‘speed demon’ on her face with the distant Eifel Tower over her shoulder. Hats off to the folks that did the art work for the Sims 3 World Adventures. They did a really nice job.

It turned out that her Sims 3 France contact was the owner of the local store. The Store was pretty neat. You can buy a variety of things there from dehydrated food to keep you going while you are on your Sims 3 adventure to a nifty shower in a can for those not so fresh moments.

Jasmine’s first adventure in Sims 3 France, sent her to this old Celtic relic. Again, the artists have done a really nice job.

The real fun started though, when she went down underground into the tombs bellow the relic. I have to say that I really enjoyed the whole feeling of these underground tombs. Plus, it also means we can now build basements in our Sims 3 homes. I am going to have to play with that later on but for now I am more up for exploring.

Once in the tomb, she had to negotiate her way through by breaking through rocks, moving statues into position to help solve puzzles and other things such as finding keys. Really, they have made an adventure game they have tacked onto the Sims 3 and so far I am really enjoying it. Here are some pics from her adventures in the French tombs from Sims 3 World Adventures.

After successfully completing this challenge, Jasmine Pugginton then went on to explore more of the Sims 3 France countryside. She ended up at this stately home. This turned out to be a BIG mistake! Sure, the home looks stunningly beautiful but it is like the house equivalent of the venus fly trap. It looks very beautiful and lures you to come take a closer look.

It turned out to have so many booby traps that it would make One Eyed Willy from The Goonies pround! Jasmine managed to disarm a number of them but then, after she thought she was in the clear, she got trapped in a hallway between two different sets of electric traps.

It may have been a glitch in the game but Jasmine was totally trapped between these two and trying to cross them resulted in her being burnt to a near crisp!

I really saw no way out but luckily, when it was time for her vacation to end it just sent her home. Which is good because I was sure I was going to lose her.

All and all, I think that on first impressions, the World Adventure expansion pack is a success. There are little things they have added that I really like and other things which I think will herald a lot of changes in the main Sims 3 game down the line.

For example, now when you have a task to complete, it tells you how far along you are to completion. So, if you have to work out in the gym for four hours straight, every time you hover over that want it will tell you how long you have been there. Then, on the larger side of things, when you visit a store in the vacation towns you actually go inside of them. I am sure that will mean that eventually the rabbit holes in the main Sims 3 town will be playable too. I am sure we can all imagine the any number of Sims 3 expansion packs that could come out of opening up the various businesses.

It doesn’t appear that the World Adventures expansion pack is bug free though. A number of people have reported having problems saving their games. Apparently, the answer is to ‘save as’ instead of save. The expansion pack has changed the way the games are saved and it is confusing it. Also, I have stopped earning money on any of my investments since installing the expansion pack. Food is also spoiling in the fridge within 24 hours of it being stored. All of these problems, and more, are known to the Sims 3 staff though and no doubt a patch is on its way.

It all started with her standing up in the middle of her bed every few moments during the night. Then she was noticed standing up while using the toilet and then not being able to use the treadmill without falling off the end every other second. Now, Shantel Jayne has reached the stage in her case of Restless Sim Syndrome where she can not even sit to read a book with her child without being forced to stand up and then sit back down.

At the moment, I am still playing with my very first Sims 3 character. If you followed her creation, you will know that she is Sarah Jayne. Sims 3 Sarah Jayne is probably nearing the end of her life. So, I thought I would share the first part of her Sims 3 story with the Sims community.

The Story of Sims 3 Sarah Jayne…so far

Sarah Jayne arrived in Sunset Valley without much money to her name. So, she bought the only house that she could afford with the money in her pocket.  It may not have been much to look at but it was her own.  Sims 3 Sarah Jayne was unemployed so she couldn’t even begin to think about affording a car and instead bought a bike which she proudly parked outside her humble home.

Sarah Jayne wasn’t about to stay unemployed for long. She arrived in Sunset Valley with the lifetime wish of becoming the culinary librarian.  So, she got on that shiny new bike and went down to the bistro to start her culinary career journey.

Even though she loved to cook, life at home was getting pretty lonely for Sarah Jayne when she was left cooking macaroni and cheese for one each night.

So, Sarah Jayne set out to find her Sims 3 soul mate.  The man she would be cooking candlelight meals for throughout the rest of her Sims 3 lifespan. She met lots of different Sims 3 guys. Whenever the opportunity struck to talk to one of the fine men of Sunset Valley she jumped at the chance. Even though Sarah Jayne is a plus sized Sims 3 woman she wasn’t even afraid to approach men at the local pool.

They were always happy to talk and even flirt a bit but soon enough, Sarah Jayne would find out that all of these Sims 3 men were already in relationships.  There was no way that Sarah Jayne was going to be one of *those* Sims 3 women. So, she was starting to think she would never find her Sims 3 man and that she would have to become the neighbourhood cat lady.

Then one evening she was visiting her neighbour when she laid her eyes on Connor Frio. From the very first moment that she saw him dancing to the music on the stereo, Sarah Jayne was checking him out. The look on her face says it all about her level of attraction to Connor Frio. She knew it was a bit rude but she stopped talking to her neighbour and went over to introduce herself to Connor.

Much to her relief, Connor and Sarah Jayne hit is off right away and soon were dancing and chatting into the night. Sarah Jayne was even more happy to find out that Connor Frio was also single. At last, Sarah Jayne thought she was on her way to a Sims 3 romance.

Soon, Sarah Jayne and Connor Frio was spending nearly every non-working moment together. As soon as they got off work they would rush around town to find each other. They would even play chess on the beach until dawn. Sharing their theories on things as vast as recipes to the chances of their being a sea monster lurking around Sunset Valley.

Sarah Jayne should have been happy but she couldn’t shake feelings of doubt she was having over her relationship with Connor Frio. Despite them getting very close, every time Sarah Jayne tried to kiss Connor Frio he would pull away and make a big fuss. She could understand this at the start of their time together but eventually it became too much for her.

Sarah Jayne called Connor Frio to the swingset in the playground for one last ditch attempt to take their relationship to the next level. They talked for hours in the shadow the swings and hugged each other tightly. Yet, when Sarah Jayne moved in for that kiss, Connor Frio once again pushed her away. Sarah Jayne could hear her biological clock ticking and knew it was time to move Connor to the ‘only good friends’ list in her life.

Once again, Sarah Jayne felt that she would live out her Sims 3 days as a single woman. Then, one night, when she had entered – and won – a hot dog eating contest to earn some extra cash, fate struck. As she exited the bistro, still celebrating her victory, a young adult Sim called Michael Bachelor approached her and declared himself a fan of her hot dog eating technique.

Sarah Jayne knew that Michael Bachelor was a good deal younger than her but there was just something so comfortable about talking to him. It didn’t take long into their conversation for them to be in the throws of an embrace and Sarah Jayne was finally getting her first kiss. Sarah Jayne has the Sims 3 trait of being a great kisser. So, Michael Bachelor couldn’t stop kissing her even though he was about to fall asleep on his feet.

Sarah Jayne then did something she had never been thought about doing before and invited Michael Bachelor to come home with her. Michael Bachelor accepted but said that he was a man of virtue and even though they slept in the bed together, all they did was cuddle. Something which just made Sarah Jayne fall for him even more. Sarah Jayne learned that it is true that when you find the right person you ‘just know’.

It was only a matter of days before Sarah Jayne was on her knees and proposing to Michael Bachelor. He was just as smitten with Sarah Jayne and of course said yes. The only rule that Sarah Jayne set down about their marriage was that afterwards, Michael Bachelor had to pick out a new outfit because those green work out pants just were not working for her.

The wedding planning didn’t take long and Sarah Jayne and Michael Bachelor held a wedding party in the park with a few select friends. Being a cook, Sarah Jayne decided to do all the catering herself and to keep it all pretty low key. She is a vegetarian, so she treated the wedding guests to some freshly grilled tofu dogs.

After everybody was fed, the couple moved to the fountain where they became Sims 3 man and wife.

They rushed home after the ceremony and Michael Bachelor held up his end of the bargain and picked out a new outfit.

Sarah Jayne was so happy with the look of her new husband, that she invited him into her bed where they celebrated their union as any newly wed couple would on their wedding night.

As fate would have it, this really was the night that would change the life of both Sarah Jayne and Michael Jayne forever. On their very first night together, Sarah Jayne became pregnant.

What will the future hold for Sarah Jayne? She is only a few days away from old age and she is pregnant with the child of her much younger husband. Will it be a life of pure happiness or did Sarah Jayne just make the mistake of her Sims 3 life? Tune in next time…same Sims 3 channel

On a personal note..I was actually really happy to see Michael Bachelor in The Sims 3. He was the very first Sims character I ever played way back with the original Sims game. So, it is great to have my first Sims 3 character marry a younger version of him. He does look much different but he is still into sports so it is certainly still him.

I figured I would write this post as I find my way around Create A Sim for the first time.

Getting Started With Create A Sim

The first thing I notice when I go into Create A Sim is that the game is offering me a tutorial straight away. I am liking the Sims 3 lessons. They are better than those somewhat annoying info popups from The Sims 2 and if you need them they are there rather than in your face. So, I took the small tutorial. To be fair, it didn’t tell me all that much that I wouldn’t have already known from playing previous versions of The Sims.

The Basics

So, now I have a Sims character standing there in front of the mirror waiting to be altered. I actually like the premade Sims 3 character it is offering me but there is no way that I am not going to create my own Sims character the first time out. It is interesting, to me anyway, that they start you off with the ‘young adult’ option selected rather than the adult.

I am not sure what I will be able to do as a young adult Sims 3 character. So, I think I am going to make my first Sims 3 character an adult. After all, I am 32 years old and I am going to try to make one that looks a bit like me. Right, the the ‘basics’ option is already selected to the left of the Sims 3 character.

The first thing they want me to do is pick a first and last name for my new Sims 3 character. Like I said, I am going to try to make one a bit like me this time. So…first name Sarah and for the last name I am going to use my middle name. Which is Jayne. So, now my character is Sarah Jayne.

Okay, now the Create A Sim wants me to pick a gender and age for the character. It is set on female and young adult as default. I am keeping it as female (duh) and picking adult.

Now, is where Create A Sim it is getting different than making a Sims character in The Sims 2. The next option is ‘Skin Tone’. There is a pull down menu where you can pick from six basic tones. They range from a pale tone to even a blue, green and pink. When you pick one of these basic Sims 3 skin tones you then have a slide tool that you can move along to make a custom shade.

I am going to say here just how much I love how much you can zoom in on your character in The Sims 3 Create A Sim tool. Really, as I am picking the skin tone for my Sims 3 character, I am right up on her body. You can go super close into her face to the point of being nearly in her eyeball. Neat!

I am a fairly pale person – though, not ghost level. So, I slide it along until I get to a tone that I think is a fair representation.

Now, it is on to the ‘body modifiers’ part of the tool. The first part of that is to pick if your Sims 3 character is go to be skinny or fat or somewhere in between. Now, I am a big lady. However, I have lost nearly 100lbs over the last couple years. Even though I am still big, I don’t think I need to make myself up to the very largest size. However, I will say that the fat Sims 3 character looks great even up to the very biggest size. They are true BBW style big women! I love the the face plumps out in proportion with the face and looks like it ‘fits’ with the body.

Once I pick the appropriate level of ‘fat’ then I still need to adjust the muscle size. Which, means you can be fat and totally flabby or fat with muscles. I will stick Sarah Jayne somewhere in the middle of this scale.

At this stage, I am now done with the ‘basics’ screen on the Create A Sim tool. The next option on the menu is hair. However, I like doing hair last when I make a Sims character. So, I am going to move down to the third button on the menu which is ‘looks’. When I click that the first thing that comes up is the ‘head and ears’ menu. You can go for the basic option or the advanced option.

It looks like the basic option involves a bunch of default shapes and the advances is where you can mold the head and ears yourself. For Sarah Jayne, I end up doing a mixture of both. I pick one of the pre-made face structures and then tweak it to get what I think looks best. I then go on and do the same thing for the eyes (love the way you pick eye colour), nose and mouth.

After that there is a ‘topical details’ option which is totally new to the Sims 3 versus what was available in Sims 2. Here is where you can decide if your Sims 3 character will have freckles, beauty marks or age detail. I don’t have any of those things. So, neither will The Sims 3 Sarah Jayne.

Makeup is the next option but I think I will do hair and clothing first to get the feeling for my Sims 3 character before I do her makeup. I like to make the Sims makeup fit with clothing and personality and I don’t think that fully develops for me until I see the whole package.

So, off to hair I go. I am really looking forward to see what we can actually do after seeing so many teaser pictures of the hair options in the build up to The Sims 3.

There really are a lot of possibilities for colour selection here. I know in the future I will play with that for hours but for now I just go with a brown and then make it slightly darker than the default. I do like that you can do the colour of eye brows independent of the hair colour. The unibrow option is also a hoot!

Now it is Sims 3 clothing time! I like that we can pick nearly every part of an outfit. That is particularly great with the shoes which have often been pretty bad in previous versions of The Sims. The only thing I will say, is that we need some t-shirt type tops for women that don’t show their bellies. Not every woman wants to flash their belly button to the world and I would assume that is the same with Sims 3 women. That said, I know that if they gave us every type of possible Sims clothing from the start then there would be little reason for us to go buy more items from the Sims Store.

I picked out some jeans for Sarah Jayne but I wanted them black and there weren’t any nice black jeans. So, I went into the Create A Style tool and took an existing pair of blue jeans. Then, I used the colour wheel – very easy to use by the way – to make them black and to give them a funky red and black belt.

I saved those as a custom style and chose to share them. So, they are now available for download on the exchange.  I am not sure how to link to a particular item on the Sims exchange. Now that all my outfits and my hairstyles are sorted out it is time to do the makeup for Sarah Jayne. The first thing I love about the Sims 3 makeup is just how much more control we have over their look. No more horrid foundation to put on your Sims 3 character.

Instead it is more about the eyes then anything else. We can pick various styles of eye shadow and eyeliner and then pick an infinite number of shades.

The blusher is simple but neat in that it gives a lot of character to the skin tone of your Sims 3 character. Finally, it is onto lipstick which also has a lot of shading possibilities.

I am really happy with the colour palette that i have chosen for Sarah Jayne. So, it is now on to the final step of the Create A Sim. Time for Sarah Jayne to get a personality. When I click the ‘Personality’ button from the menu, I am offered the chance to do a tutorial on Sims 3 personality traits. I figure it can’t hurt to learn more and click yes. It turns out to be a pretty straight forward lesson once again but if this is your first time playing any of the Sims games it will be a help for certain.

The first task under personality it to pick the traits for Sarah Jayne. There are five boxes available for selecting traits. You can have them filled randomly but I want to explore a bit this time. When I click at an empty traits box I am brought to a list of categorized traits. The categories for the Sims 3 traits are mental, physical, social and lifestyle. I am going to start out by picking one of each for Sarah Jayne.

I end up giving Sarah Jayne – great kisser, heavy sleeper, natural cook and vegetarian. That leave one slot open so I picked ‘childish’. Sounds like a mix that just about sums up the real Sarah Jayne too. Especially that bit about being a great kisser..lol.

After the traits were in place I was told to pick a lifetime wish. These wishes I could pick from changed whenever I added a trait so obviously they are generated based on those selections. I chose to make Sarah Jayne’s lifetime wish to become The Culinary Librarian. I am a mad cook in real life so that makes sense.

Next, I have to pick the favourites and voice for my Sims 3 character. The favourites remind me a lot of the way we picked attraction traits in The Sims 2. This time though we are picking the favourite food, music and colour for our Sims 3 character. I made Sarah Jayne’s favourites be fruit parfait, indie music (btw..where is the rock or metal choice?) and black.

The voice selection thing is neat. For all the research I did waiting for The Sims 3 release date I had no idea we would be able to influence the voice of our Sims 3 character. I picked voice 2 and just a little bit past the middle for tone.

Being a total Sims dork, I brought my camera and figures I might share the journey of my The Sims 3 copy from store to drive, so to speak. Yes, somewhat lame, I know, but then I have been waiting a very long time for this day.

Anyway, so when I got off the bus I went straight towards my local branch of Game. They sure were going big on it being The Sims 3 release day. This picture is of their display window. At least I knew they wouldn’t have forgotten to order their copies of the game!

Game also made sure you knew as soon as you walked into the shop that today was Sims 3 day. You have to love that they even have the Sims 3 advertising on the security scanner at the door. So that people trying to steal their copy of The Sims can get a good look?

So, I went in and handed over my Game membership card and asked for my reserved copy of The Sims 3. The guy said ‘oh, there is a problem with these copies’. Well, as you can imagine, I was having a mild freak out inside but I calmly asked him what he meant. Eventually, he bumbled through an explanation that some people that have bought The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition were having problem with the access codes for getting their free sports car. Then he gave me a url where info would be displayed about how to get the car. He said he thought it was just a high demand thing. I don’t know what the real case is but I can wait on the cars. Anybody in the UK been able to download the cars? Where did you get them?

Anyway, I then had to to wait for my bus home too. Why is it that when you really want to get somewhere the buses take forever to arrive? Once I got home I laid the two boxes that I came with The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition out on my computer desk. These are my very own copies of The Sims 3:

When I was in town, I picked up a sandwich from Subway because there was no way that I was going to stop my install to actually make food. This picture pretty much sums up my plans for the afternoon.

Then, I very nearly had a Sims 3 heart attack. I opened the first box that came with my copy of The Sims 3 Collectors Edition. When I opened it this is what was what I found inside>

That is right! It was empty! Oh my lord, I could feel my heart jump out of my chest! Then, I had a flash that I had read on another Sims 3 forum last night that somebody else freaked out when they opened an box without a disc and then they latter found it in the second box. So, I calmed down a bit and opened the big fancy box that comes as part of The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition. Sure enough, the disc was in there and my blood pressure returned to somewhat normal.

A whole bunch of stuff came with the Sims 3 Collector’s Edition. I took a sort of ‘group shot’ of all the stuff that came out of the box.

The item which most people will be talking about is the Sims 3 USB drive. Here are two pictures of the one that came with my game. It does look pretty neat as far as USB drives go. It does came with a keychain attachment. So, I guess even if you aren’t going to use the USB key all that much you could still use it as a nifty Sims 3 keychain.

With everything out of the box and examined, there was only one thing left to do. Put the disc into my cd-drive and get ready to install!

So..here I go. Time to install The Sims 3 – Finally! How did your Sims 3 journey go today?

The Sims 3 movie maker looks *so* very cool. The machinima tools look set to unleash an army of Sim3 3 movie makers onto the internet. We will be able to really control the shots in our Sims 3 films by using the various tools like crane shots. Then, as if not to make thins even more amazingly cool for those of us wanting to make Sims 3 videos, the game will have an inbuilt video editor to really make Sims 3 machinima videos simple to make.

As I keep saying, I can’t wait for the Sims 3 release date to finally get here because I plan on using the Sims 3 Blog to share my own Sims 3 playing experiences. I love the idea of creating my Sims 3 characters and telling their stories to somebody other than just me. So, I just know that I will be using the heck out of this Sims 3 movie maker tool. Anyway, watch this Sims 3 fan video and see for yourself. Another thing I liked seeing in this video was the brief glimpse you get at the face creation screen. You see a variety of ‘pin points’ around the shape of the face. That has so many possibilities for making a really unique Sims 3 character for those Sims 3 fan videos you will be making!

First of all, start off with the Sims man that is the feature of the video and just how badly his outfit clashes. Just because you can make your clothing be any pattern doesn’t mean you have an excuse for that level of bad dressing! Then, follow him as he tries it on with one classy looking Sims 3 woman after another. They all reject him and his horrible clothing.

Finally, across the Sims 3 common he spots the Sims woman of his dreams. She is also busy getting rejected by potential Sims lovers. When she turns around it is love at first sight but look at that make up! Apparently, she didn’t have enough Simoleons saved up to buy a mirror to look in before leaving her house!

When I like here is them showing us a bit about how the colour shader will work. It shows us how we will be able to get truly creative with every aspect of the characters we created in The Sims 3. Watch as they play around with the skin tone of the example Sims 3 characters and make them every sort of colour possible from natural to truly alien.

I loved seeing the Sims 3 hospital. That hospital still intrigues me. I wonder if pregnant Sims will have to be taken there to give birth? I also really enjoyed seeing the waterfall from the new Sims 3 town. It really looked beautiful. Oh, and watch out for the bit in this Sims 3 video where she jumps between tall buildings in a single bound!

The gist of this Sims 3 video is to show us the possibilities for building individual personalities in The Sims 3. This is great for me because I am the sort of Sims player that really gets the most out of creating a character and building them as an individual. I am loving that you can do things like make vegetarian Sims 3 character.

Beyond the character traits we are shown in this video, I also enjoyed looking at little details. For example, I liked seeing what the food will look like when it is being prepared. It had a lot more detail than the previous games which is great because, next to playing The Sims, cooking is my other top hobby. My waistline proves that!

Something else that also caught my eye in this Sims 3 video was that one of the Sims characters had a trait where he never got nude. That included him taking a bath in his underwear. I can’t wait to find out what other little joke traits we will unearth when the Sims 3 release date finally arrives.
